A mobile phone for people with disabilities
August 2008 – Current

Orange Dot Pty Ltd is a company that develops accessible technology devices. It was founded by Rhys Cooper and myself to develop an accessible mobile phone interface for people with disabilities.
Rhys is the creative genius who knows an incredible amount about accessibility and what the disability space needs and I’m the business guy who writes business and turns Rhys’ ideas into something tangible.
To date we:
- have won the mega pitch panel prize (August 2008),
- recruited two highly experienced non-executive directors in Justin Brow and Shane Williamson,
- argued a lot,
- raised $30,000 in angel investment,
- lodged patent applications,
- completed a working prototype (August 2009),
- won the MEX mobile user experience award for the freelance category in London,
- have released the first prototype for real world user testing; and
- enabled a disabled person who had lost power in his home to get help.
In June 2010 Orange Dot took a huge leap forward unveiling our first commercial product, the Doo Phone.
The Doo Phone is designed for people with visual impairments, limited dexterity, intellectual impairments or someone who just wants a really easy phone to use. The Doo Phone is a software interface for a Windows Mobile based smart phone. You can find out more about the product by visiting the Doo Phone website.
The Doo Phone was made possible by forming a strategic partnership with Stephen Kelly, an Brisbane based software developer. Stephen and his team have made a sizeable investment in Orange Dot and their advice has been critical to bringing the product to market.
